it may be proven better for crops, but its not exactly harvestable if you have no-one alive to harvest it, which could happen if Global Warming does exist.

also, considering I can't even drink at my age, gg on the ethanol comment.

i was referring to the fuel ethanol not the moonshine.

Oh I'm definitely going to believe you over the educated and intelligent scientists.

If they relied on corn for ethanol and ethanol for fuel, there wouldn't be any for food after about a week. Besides that, corn-based ethanol is not a viable solution for other important reasons. It's more expensive to make than gasoline is from oil, and the current method of producing ethanol uses a good deal of oil and electricity.

They're talking about using sugar cane and switchgrass as an alternative to corn as well as crop waste which would use a lot more energy efficient method of production.

I love when people think that humans have such an impact on the temperature of the earth. If you are going to believe every scientist, then fine, believe the people who are trying to create a problem so they can get money. But I would suggest do your own research and try to get the answer for yourself.

The problem with global warming is that the earth has its own cycle because of the sun and other variables. Its extremely hard and almost impossible to differ between the human influence and the norm of the earth cycle, the earth system is very very complex. The actual hysteria is driven by money and politics, not science. Look at the term people use "climate change", and funny enough the climate is ALWAYS changing! People need to understand that the earth climate change is non-linear, what we are thinking is linear. The earth's climate does not change to suit our needs of what "good weather is" and its most certainly up to us to adapt to whatever the earth is changing too.

Global warming at the moment is an hypothesis and people who tell you otherwise is trying to sell you something.

True?
False?

It's a rather meaningless event. By meaningless, I mean its action produces no measurable result. Not trying to flame anyone here, just the people organizing the event.
I watched Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" and he said that with all the factories and electricity it's producing greenhouse gases, and what they do is they trap the sun's ray's into earth's atmosphere, which keeps it warmer, because normally the sun's ray's bounce off the earth and back into space, but the ozone layer is trapping them, because of the gases.

Not saying that that is exactly what is going on, but that's Gore's opinion.

We really can't know if the earth goes through cycles or not, because the human race has only been recording temperatures for about 250 years or so.

I'm all for conserving fossil fuels and energy efficient light bulbs and Energy Star qualified dryers or whatever the hell they're trying to market to us to make us feel like good people, but I'm not sold on Global Warming.

I tried it for 10 minutes and got bored, then turned everything back on.

No one in my neighborhood was doing it anyway.

I'm not sure why you quoted me to make your statement. We are in agreement for the most part, except I am uncertain whether or not you take Al Gore seriously. I certainly don't. When I said global warming is caused by the sun, I meant that literally. I am not referring to the environmentalist movement's use of the term, simply to the fact that the sun is the single largest source of heat for the planet.

I don't think there is enough evidence for man producing any significant, long-term climate change, but I also believe we should excercise responsibility in safeguarding our world for the next generation. I don't think that flipping a light switch off for an hour is particularly significant or profound.

So, whats earth power hour? I have missed it i am guessing, but funny i never heard of it.

Also, when people try to argue global warming by saying it is just a hypothesis, well so is quantum mechanics, but that doesn't mean it still isn't damn accurate. Global warming in believed to be accurate by most scientists, and there is much more evidence for it than for "Global cooling" back in the 70's or whenever. It is funny to hear people talk about solar cycles as if scientists have completely ignored them, but trust me they have been factored in to the equation.

Granted it could still all be a mistake, but it is naive to think humans cant impact on the environment. If one volcano thousands of miles away can cause a 3 year perpetual winter in England, prolonged human fiddling could also do some pretty bad stuff.

But yes, it has been milked for all it is worth by governments and agencies trying to make money. I would do the same if given a chance.

Of course the earth goes through weather cycles. And we can record temperatures more than 250 years. Or rather we only have a reliable source of the temperature record from the past 150ish years. (1850) For the record to go any further is estimated.

Right then, time for this to end. As you can see its turned into a pointless arguement.

The original purpose of this thread has been lost.

If you want to start a -civil- discussion about Global Warming (Or lack there of) then by all means go for it.
